As part of our role as Metalwork Conservation Advisor to The National Trust, we have inspected the condition and security of the sculptures on the roof at Lyme Park several times, and have conserved the Venus figure, shown below right (before conservation).

In Greek mythology, Poseidon was the god of the sea, as well as horses and, as "Earth-Shaker", of earthquakes. He figured as Rodon in Illyrian, Nethuns in Etruscan, and Neptune in Roman mythology.

Venus was a major Roman goddess principally associated with love and beauty, the rough equivalent of the Greek goddess Aphrodite. She was considered the ancestor of the Roman people by way of its legendary founder, Aeneas, and played a key role in many Roman religious festivals and myths.

Pan inspired sudden fear in lonely places, Panic (panikon deima). Apparently when Pan was a newborn, the first onlookers saw the ugly "child" and ran in fright (or panic). Pan was later known for his music, capable of arousing inspiration, sexuality, or panic, depending on his intentions.
